Timber Floor Underlayment: Sydney Self Levelling Guide

Engineered timber and floating floors need a flat, stable substrate. Even small variations in the concrete slab cause creaking, bouncing, and premature joint failure. Self levelling underlayment creates the perfect base for timber floors in Sydney homes and apartments.

Why Concrete Slabs Are Never Flat Enough

A structural concrete slab is poured to tolerances that suit the structural engineer, not the flooring installer. Variations of 5 to 10mm over a 3-metre span are common. For timber flooring, this is a problem. The boards need to sit on a flat surface without rocking or bridging over hollows.

Over time, a timber floor installed on an uneven slab will develop creaks, gaps, and board separation. The hollow spots become stress concentrators where the click-lock joints fail.

Self Levelling Underlayment: The Solution

Self levelling compound is pumped onto the slab and flows to create a dead-flat surface. A 3mm to 5mm layer is usually sufficient to correct slab variations and create a surface ready for timber underlayment. The product is Hychem-backed, so the substrate carries a manufacturer's warranty.

PowerPump's batch truck mixes the compound mechanically by weight and pumps it through a hose. No bags are mixed on site, so there is no silica dust, no mess, and no inconsistency between batches.

Programme and Cost Benefits

A pumped underlayment pour takes hours, not days. The floor is ready for timber installation the next day. For Sydney builders and developers, the programme savings and the elimination of callbacks make pumped underlayment the most cost-effective option.
